Visiting

Frequently asked questions

What are the criteria by which you evaluate potential visitors?
We want people who are dedicated to their research, but we are not stuffy enough to require credentials. Many of our visitors have or are working on PhDs, but the only requirement is a strong background in your field.
How long do I stay?
Typical visits range from a few days to a few weeks. We're flexible and can accommodate various schedules depending on availability.
What is the social atmosphere/expectation?
We encourage collaboration and social interaction, but also respect people's need for focused work time. Most evenings include group dinners and activities like board games.
Where is PSI located, and how do I get there?
We have two locations: Maui, Hawaii and Sandy, Utah. Both are accessible via major airports (Kahului for Maui, Salt Lake City for Utah). See our Locations page for details.
What if I'm not a research scientist, and I want to visit?
We welcome science-friendly creatives and those with strong intellectual curiosity, even if you don't have formal research credentials. Let us know about your background in your application.
When is the best time to visit?
Both locations are great year-round. Maui is tropical with consistent weather. Utah offers skiing in winter and hiking/biking in summer.
Is PSI part of a University?
No, PSI is an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, not affiliated with any university.
Is PSI tied to any private companies?
